Resources

This is a handbook to support the defence of communities, of places, of ecosystems, and of life.

It was written for individuals, local action groups and whole communities who find themselves confronted with the extractive industry in its many forms — whether a new super-intensive monoculture plantation, the installation of (yet) another giant solar farm, the opening of a mine, the building of a new dam, or resorts on the dunes, and so on.

Public health impacts of wind farms

These documents, produced by the Platform for Sustainability and Biodiversity of the Algarve and Alentejo (PPSBAA), present an overview of the main concerns and impacts associated with the installation of wind farms in the north-eastern Algarve, highlighting risks to biodiversity, public health and the local economy, as well as the need for more sustainable and rigorous planning.

PEGA — SPECIFIC WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN

A PEGA is a mechanism that any citizen, association or municipality can request if they consider the measures proposed by the (general) Management Plan for their river-basin region to be insufficient. The law provides for the possibility of creating a PEGA for each region or watercourse. For the next cycle (2028–2033), submissions will be requested between 2026 and 2027, in the formal consultations run by the APA.

El campo franquiciado

A Greenpeace report analyses how the massive influx of investment funds and large capital has transformed Spain’s olive-growing sector over recent decades. It explains the growth of the agribusiness model — marked by super-intensive plantations, mechanisation and corporate concentration — as well as the role of new financial and corporate players across the whole olive-oil value chain. It also examines the economic, social and environmental consequences of this process, highlighting the impact on traditional farmers, water use, the distribution of public subsidies, and the rise of inequality in the sector.
